For the next month, I will be interning at Halifax’s alternative weekly publication, The Coast. It’s been the primary alternative news and culture source in Halifax since 1993, and remains independent. I’ve always admired the papers strong sense of community reporting for HRM, and how they stand by their decisions, regardless of controversy that may surface.
I started on Friday, May 4. My first day was quite straight forward: Learn the ropes; Get a tour; Run-down of the weekly organization; Meet the staff. I must say, the office and location are much nicer and easy on the eyes than I expected. I have a vision of a newspaper office being dingy, messy and crammed. The Coast’s space is anything but those things.
Yesterday was another basic day of posting listings and writing small pieces. Hard to believe I’ve only been here two days now. I’m really enjoying the experience so far and I can’t wait to share my writings on this website when they are published.
Stay golden,
Leah
